Ebola: Lesotho abort African Youth Championship qualifier trip to Nigeria

The South African team have cancelled their trip to face the Flying Eagles due to fear of the deadly virus outbreak in Nigeria with just 24 hours to kick-off

Lesotho U20 national team have called off their trip to Nigeria for the first leg final round qualifier for the 2015 African Youth Championship over growing concern of the outbreak of Ebola in the country.

The team billed to arrive Nigeria on Friday ahead of the qualifying tie slated for Saturday 16th August at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna have made their intentions known not to honour the game.

Limtho Mokhethi, a Lesotho Football Federation official said the team has written CAF and the Nigeria Football Federation about their inavaliablity for the game in Kaduna.

"We have contacted the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and copied the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that we will not be coming for this game," Mokhethi told AFP.

However, match officials from Senegal appointed for the encounter have arrived in Kaduna.

There is no confirmation yet from CAF about any postponement or punishment for the South African team over their failure to honour the game with a late withdrawal 24 hours to kickoff.
